Reading Readiness Classes
Effective Speech Therapy's reading readiness classes focus on phonemic awareness skills, alphabet recognition skills, and sight word recognition skills for preschoolers (age 3 years ) through second grade. The therapist directly teaches children how to break up words into words using a multisensory approach. Children will learn to recognize that sounds make up words and allow them to practice isolating, manipulating, blending and segmenting sounds.
The LIVE! Reading Readiness classes are held through the Zoom platform on Tuesday afternoons. The parent and student can log on with a tablet, phone, or computer to participate. They will see the therapist in real time and repeat the words and sounds and imitate the actions.
The two best predictors of early reading success are alphabet recognition and phonemic awareness (Adams, 1990)
